Staying Healthy This Holiday Season

Staying Healthy This Holiday Season

As the holiday season draws near, you’re probably already thinking about your growing to-do list. The holiday shopping, the out-of-town family gatherings, the office parties—it all can be a bit overwhelming. During this busy time of year, you have to remember to take care of yourself. Otherwise, your jam-packed schedule could lead to stress and burnout, making you more susceptible to illness. As your Costa Mesa urgent care center, we want you to stay happy and healthy this holiday season. Here are some tips we’ve gathered to help ensure you keep stress in check and illnesses at bay throughout the holidays.
Don’t Overbook
Overcommitting your time is one of the easiest ways to add extra stress to your life during the holidays. Just remember, you don’t have to do it all, and you don’t have to do it alone. It’s OK to ask a family member to help you prepare the holiday meal, or to decline a party invite if going means you’ll have to stay up all night wrapping presents or preparing your house for holiday guests. It’s important to pencil in down time, and if you want to stay focused and healthy during the holiday season, you can’t sacrifice sleep.
The holiday season should be fun, not stressful. If you prioritize and ask for help when necessary, you’ll enjoy the holiday activities that you do participate in even more, and you’ll be less likely to come down with an illness.

Schedule a Check-Up
Health check-ups are likely the last thing on your mind during the holidays, but preventative exams and screenings are an essential part of staying healthy. Routine check-ups enable medical professionals to find problems early, when they’re easier to treat and cure. If you have a specific ailment, such as allergies or an ear infection, you need to address quickly, give yourself an early gift and call our office to schedule a visit at our Orange County urgent care center. We’ll make sure you’re in the best health possible for the holiday season and beyond.
Watch Your Diet and Exercise
Although it can be challenging this time of year, you have to focus on eating right and exercising.
Not only will overindulging on holiday treats expand your waistline, too many sugary foods can leave you feeling worn out. To stay healthy during the holiday season, try to balance sweets with healthy options, such as fruits and vegetables, and no matter how busy you get, make exercise a priority.

Keep Your Hands Clean
If you want to avoid getting sick this holiday season, make a habit of washing your hands with soap and water, and remember to rub your hands together for at least 20 seconds as you’re washing. Properly washing your hands is one of the best ways to kill germs and stay healthy throughout the holidays.
What If You Do Get Sick This Holiday Season?
If you or your family members come down with an illness, stop by our urgent care in Orange County. You won’t have to wait days or weeks for an appointment, and we’ll give you the treatment you need to get you back on your feet and enjoying the holiday season again as soon as possible.
If you’d like more advice on how to stay healthy during the holidays, or would like to schedule an appointment, call us at 949-548-8400 or visit us at our Costa Mesa medical clinic.
